Offot Ukwa Association (OUA) 2017 Convention, held in Atlanta from Thursday May 25th, to Sunday, May 28th, 2017.

We are incredibly thankful the Local Organizing Committee and the National Convention Planning Committee under the able leadership of Uwem and Peter Inyang. The gaily decorated hall overflowed with enthusiastic friends, family and well-wishers from the USA, Europe and the Homeland. The music variety featured live and talking drum performances which got everyone fired up to dance and draw sweat a work out of sorts. Our OUA membership entrance dance steps, Ekpo and Ekpe masquerades added color to the festive mood.

OUA as an organization is known to blaze the trail in several areas. Last year, in our 2016 Convention, in Dallas TX, our Clan Head became the first traditional chieftain to grace a convention of its people in the diaspora. This year we elected our women to the leadership: Mrs. Idara Udo (President); Ms Ekaette Austin (Vice President).

Our own Offot Ukwa youths took responsibility for recording the video and still photographs, a shining example for others to emulate.

Another unique feature was the showcasing of two brand new marriages of our sons and daughters: Dr. and Mrs. Ibanga & Edu Ikpe, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul & Edna Obla.

Four persons, compatriots of Offot and the greater Akwa Ibom State were honored with platitudes and plaques for their contributions to our community by the Board and Executive of the OUA. They are: Dr. Emmanuel Akpan; Mr. Itoro Akpan Iquot; Ms Eme Nsuk and Mr. Uduakobong Ubon.

We recognized Offot Ukwa sons and daughters who graduated recently with High school diplomas up to and including Doctorate degrees.

The OUA team also offered volunteer services on Friday, May, 26th at Med Share, packaging medical supplies and equipment for shipment to needy facilities and countries. The location is at 3240 Clifton Spring Road, Decatur, GA 30034 and related information can be found at

The Senate of the State of Georgia passed the resolution #562, jointly sponsored by Senators James of the 35th and Rhett of the 33rd districts which was adopted on the 30th day of March 2017, commending OUA and setting aside May 27th as Offot Ukwa Association Day.

The OUA may be likened to a locomotive on the move. While there is room for everyone, those whose life's wish is to stop a moving train had better watch out or step aside.

We salute all our people and urge everybody to get on board, and be familiar with the provisions of our rule book, the constitution. That much we expect from membership, executive and board to facilitate our pace of development through disciplined team work.

Sincerely Yours,

Mrs. Uwem Inyang
Convention Planning Chair/BOT member
